HackerOne ID Verification enables your program to have access to a community of finders who have successfully completed an ID Verification to invite to your program. To opt-in to ID Verification, contact your Customer Success Manager.
HackerOne Clear enables your program to access an exclusive community of background-checked hackers. Background-checked finders are active, high-performing members of the HackerOne community who have satisfied strict criminal background checks. Having these hackers participate in your program ensures that trusted people are partnered with you to find vulnerabilities.
Note: HackerOne Clear is available as an add-on. To opt-in to Clear, contact your Account Manager.
To access your HackerOne Clear settings:
Go to Program Settings > Program > Hacker Management > Clear.
Click View the full list of Clear finders that have been invited to your program to see which invited finders are Clear-verified. Clear-verified finders will be marked with this icon:
Criminal background-checked and/or ID-verified finders are invited to your program through the invitation process, in which invites are geared specifically toward criminal background-checked finders.
How can I request for non-Clear Hackers to gain access to my Clear program
Go to Settings-> Hacker Management -> Invitations to view the status of your invitations and also invite HackerOne Hackers to your Clear program, regardless of their Clear status. As long as the Hacker has a HackerOne account, they can be invited using the Hacker’s HackerOne handle or email address (either the Hacker’s HackerOne email address or their personal address with which they signed up to HackerOne), you can invite them by following the steps here.
After you choose to invite the Hacker, they will receive an invitation to complete the necessary checks to achieve Clear status. You can track their progress on the platform.
Once the Hacker has completed all relevant steps to become Clear, they can accept your Clear program invite.
How ID verification, residency & citizenship checks work
HackerOne partners with Veriff to conduct global ID Verification checks. The finder takes an image of their ID and then themselves in real time, which are then compared and verified. Residency and citizenship verification checks are completed by this same process with restrictions on what ID types can be used.
How criminal background checks work
HackerOne partners with Checkr to conduct all global criminal background checks. For all countries, the maximum criminal background check allowed by law is performed. Unfortunately, countries where it’s illegal to perform criminal background checks won’t be eligible to participate in HackerOne criminal background-checked Clear programs. Currently, this includes Afghanistan, Djibouti, French Polynesia, Guernsey, Hong Kong, Iran, Isle of Man, Israel, Jersey, Lao People's Democratic Republic, Macao, Mayotte, Sierra Leone, and Syrian Arab Republic
For finders based in the United States, the following investigations are performed:
Investigation | Details |
Social Security Number Trace | Identifies residential address history and aliases. |
Country Criminal Records Check | Identifies addresses and jurisdictions, including felony and misdemeanor criminal records. |
State Criminal Records Check | Identifies addresses and jurisdictions, including felony and misdemeanor criminal records in Puerto Rico and 46 states. |
Federal Criminal Records Check | Identifies addresses and jurisdictions, including felony and misdemeanor criminal records. |
Enhanced Nationwide Records Check | Searches nationwide databases to identify potential jurisdictions in which the applicant may have worked, lived, gone to school, or committed a crime. |
Sex Offender Records Check | Searches the US Department of Justice Sex Offender Registry to identify registered sex offenders, convictions, and/or infractions in 49 states. |
Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) Watchlist Check | Searches the U.S. Treasury Department watchlist to identify potential threats to national security. |
