How do I set up a USD Coin or Bitcoin wallet?

Many providers offer hosted wallets. Setting up a Coinbase wallet can be completed through the Coinbase Wallet app.

Setting up an external wallet might require more technical knowledge, but there are many options available. When setting up a self-custodial wallet:

  • Choose a platform you trust. Your main considerations should be security, ease of use, and compliance with government and financial regulations.

  • Create your account. Unlike a hosted wallet, you don’t need to share any personal info to create a non-custodial wallet.

  • Be sure to write down your private key. It’s presented as a random 12-word phrase. Keep it in a secure location. If you lose or forget this 12-word phrase, you won’t be able to access your crypto.

What is the difference between a hosted or self-custodial wallet?

A hosted wallet is the most user-friendly option for storing crypto. The wallet provider automatically holds your crypto, ensuring you won't lose it if you forget your password. However, hosted wallets have limitations compared to self-custodial wallets.

Self-custodial wallets give you complete control over your crypto but require you to safeguard your password or private key. Losing or forgetting this information can result in irreversible loss of your funds. Self-custodial wallets offer advanced features like yield farming, staking, lending, and borrowing, but may be more complex to use.

How can I find my wallet address?

If you are using a Coinbase wallet, follow the instructions here.

If you are using a wallet provider other than Coinbase, please consult the documentation from your provider.

What is the cadence of payouts to crypto wallets?

Payout time is 1-2 days. You'll receive your award as soon as the payment is processed.

Can I still use the Payouts, Thresholds, and Pauses feature to manage when I receive my payouts?

Yes.

Is it safe to use a Coinbase wallet or an external wallet?

Yes—By using a Coinbase, USD Coin or Bitcoin wallet, you gain greater control over your crypto funds. You'll have direct access to your private keys, giving you more flexibility and security. Additionally, you can avoid potential issues associated with custodial wallets.

Will there be any fees associated with using a Coinbase, USD Coin, or Bitcoin wallet to receive payouts from HackerOne?

No—While any time you make an “on-chain” transaction using a self-custody wallet, there are generally network fees (sometimes called “gas fees”) associated with making the transaction happen. Any fees associated with HackerOne paying out funds to a Coinbase, USD Coin, or Bitcoin wallet will not be passed on to the Hacker.

If I don't want to receive payments in my crypto wallet, can I still receive payments to my Coinbase.com account?

During the beta, you will still be able to receive payouts to your existing Coinbase payout method. However, once we GA this payout method, you will have a migration window to change your payout method to a crypto wallet payout method or choose to be paid out via PayPal or your bank account via bank transfer. When the general allocation release is completed, you will be informed of the steps and timelines you need to follow.

Instructions on how to find your Coinbase wallet can be found here.

I have some feedback regarding the new crypto wallet payout method, who should I send it to?

Please contact your Hacker Success Manager with any feedback.

What network do we use to transfer USD Coin?

USD Coin transfers currently occur on the ETH network.

What are the supported formats for crypto wallet addresses?

Bitcoin wallet supports Legacy (P2PKH) and Native SegWit (P2WPKH) formats. We will validate compliance with supported Bitcoin wallet address formats before accepting the payout preference.

USD Coin wallet supports ERC20 standard address format beginning with “0x”. We will validate ERC20 format compliance before accepting the payout preference.
